Description

The Retreat is a 15th-century cottage located in Great Horkesley. The timber frame is plastered to the front and clad with tarred weatherboards on the ends and rear. A small, one-bay extension with a hipped roof is present at the north end, featuring a low red brick chimney. The main roof is gabled and thatched, originally covering an open hall. A tusk-tenoned beam, supporting an inserted first floor, is visible on the west wall. The central door is plain, flanked by wooden casement windows to the left and right.
