Description

Knowles Cottage is a 16th century small house located on London Road in Great Horkesley. It consists of two parallel ranges, one to the east and one to the west, and features a timber frame with plastered walls. The roofs are ridged and gabled, covered with peg tiles. A red brick chimney stack is centrally placed on the front slope. The east gable has heavy top plates and side purlins. The south front showcases pairs of sliding sash windows, each with six panes arranged in a 2 over 2 configuration, set in exposed boxes. There are gabled porches on both the left and right sides, which now have six-pane casements fitted.
