Description

The barn at Broadgates is a late 16th-century structure located in Roxwell. It is timber framed with oak, featuring tall sides and no side-girts, supported by primary wall bracing. The roof is steeply pitched, equipped with compressive collars and side purlins, and is clad with corrugated iron. The main posts are jowled, and each bay contains seven studs with flat cross-sections. The barn includes a midstrey with a fly-hipped roof and large doors. The rafters were reused when the barn was constructed and were originally fitted with common-collars. The walls show evidence of an original design with exposed framing and plaster infill.
