Description

Cherry Tree Cottages consists of the original gabled wing of a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house, along with a later range of 18th-19th century timber-framed and plastered cottages. The front elevation is now faced with modern ornamental plasterwork. The north wing has two storeys, while the south range is single-storey with attics. The cottages have a four-window front with 20th-century casement windows incorporating glazing bars. There are three 20th-century doors, each with a doorcase featuring fillets, a moulded architrave, and a cornice resting on shaped brackets. A large 19th-century yellow brick addition extends to the rear. The roofs are tiled, with a mansard roof on the 18th-19th century range, which includes three gabled dormer windows. A substantial yellow brick block was added to the rear in the 19th century. Cherry Tree Cottages is part of a group that also includes The Ferns, The Chequers Inn, Broadgates, The Church of St Michael and All Angels, Nos 1 and 2 The Bishops, Cottage End, Burrells Cottage and Rose Cottage, Tighshee and Willow Cottage.
