TL 61 SE CHIGNAL ST JAMES 4/899 GRANARY AT CHIGNALL HALL

GV II Shall have the description amended to read:-

GRANARY. Mid C18 with C19 and C20 alterations. Timber framed but ground floor underbuilt in soft red bricks with flemish bond details of C19. First floor rendered on south elevation; all other elevations weather boarded. Roof covered in concrete roof tiles with half hipped gables. Two storeys. Four bays aligned North-South. Front elevation has C20 door and C20 metal window. Left side elevation has boarded door with circular cat hole. Principal bridging joists with pairs of joggled intermediate bridging joists at 90 degrees. Vertical section floor joists jointed with housed soffit tenons with diminished haunches pegged through. First floor access via internal winder staircase at south end. Roof has joggled framed sidepurlins with collars to principal rafters. All joints double pegged. Straight through wind bracing to end bays. First floor has granary bays formed by interrupted tie beams, framed into posts rising from the principal bridging joists to collars. Straight braces from storey posts to tie beams. Series of chiselled carpenter's marks on posts of each bay.
