Description
Gray's Farmhouse is a building originally constructed as a moated hall house in the 15th to 16th centuries, featuring cross wings on the east and west ends. It underwent alterations in the 17th century when the central block was raised and divided into two storeys, and further changes were made in the mid-18th century. Renovations in 1952 resulted in the loss of date tablets from the gables of the cross wings, which displayed the initials WL and the date 1743. The farmhouse is timber framed and plastered, with two storeys and attics. The cross wings have jettied upper storeys. The building has a four-window range with 20th-century metal casements that include glazing bars, and two 20th-century doors with cornice hoods. The roof is tiled and features one hipped dormer in the central block. There are also fragmentary remains of the moat surrounding the farmhouse.
