Description

Chignal Hall is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house. Originally built with an H-shaped plan, the north and south crosswings have been rebuilt and faced with red brick. The central section is jettied on the upper storey of the east front. The house has two storeys and a four-window range arranged 1:3:1. The windows in the wings are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, while the central section has casement windows. The roof is tiled and hipped at the north and south ends. The interior features a wall plate with carved brackets and an inscription indicating the building’s completion in 1552, alongside a post bearing the date 1686.
