Description
This is a disused granary, dated 1822, as indicated by the inscription "Daniel Hamling March 3 Raised 1822" carved into a roof tie. The granary is rectangular in plan, with single-storey additions to the west and south. It has a timber frame with rendered and tarred surfaces, set upon a brick and flint plinth. The gable ends are weatherboarded and the roof is covered in pantiles. The east facade features four two-light ventilation openings, one boarded door, and a two-leaf cart door. The west facade has one two-light ventilation opening and a boarded door. Inside, the ground floor is divided into two low rooms, while the cart-entrance bay is open to the roof. A plaster ceiling sits between the floor joists. A modern staircase provides access to the grain floor. The timber frame is of light timber with tension bracing, and includes jowled principal posts with five arch-braced ties. The roof structure incorporates separate principal rafter trusses with upper and lower collars. Wedgenotched butt purlins support the rafters, which rest on the backs of the purlins and are joined by a ridge board at the apex.
