Description
The Farm Tea House, located immediately northeast of Oxfootstone Farmhouse, is a former tea house built in the early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond with a pantile roof and has a rectangular shape. The front features a blackened header bond with red brick dressings and a pedimented facade supported by a pair of pilasters. There are moulded brick cornices, and the entrance is beneath a deep skewback arch. A later casement window is present on the west side wall, while the eastern window is blocked, and there is a circa late 19th century plank door at the front. The side walls have dentil cornices. The rear gable displays tumbling-in, moulded brick kneeler corbels, and a platband. Inside, the building is plastered with a plastered groin vault, where the groins feature moulded plaster flower motifs linked by three rows of beads, and similar flowers form a circle around the apex. An egg and dart cornice with a course of beads below completes the interior, which does not have a fireplace.
