Description
The Saracen's Head Hotel is a 16th century building that was encased and enlarged in the 18th century, with further alterations made in the 19th century and modern times. The exterior walls are now made of brick with stucco surfaces. The hotel has three storeys and features a five-window range with a large Ionic porch. There is a heavy moulded string at the first floor level, along with long and short quoins and a rusticated ground floor. The windows are pairs of six-pane sashes set in wide stucco surrounds, and there is one bow window on the ground floor to the north, which contains 42 panes. The building has a U-shaped plan. It is reputed that the author Anthony Trollope stayed here while writing parts of his books.
