Description
The Statue of Sir Nicholas Conyngham Tindal was erected in 1850 and is located in Tindal Square, southwest of Shire Hall and north of Tindal Street. Designed by E H Bailey, the statue features a bronze seated figure dressed in judges' robes, positioned on a stone pedestal that includes an inscription. The statue has four corner terminals. Sir Nicholas Conyngham Tindal, who lived from 1776 to 1846, was born in Chelmsford and educated at the Grammar School. He served as Solicitor-General and Chief Justice of Common Pleas, and he is noted for his involvement in several significant legal cases as a judge.
