Description
Jordons Farmhouse is a mid-19th century house located on Church Road in Mountnessing. It has been extended in the 19th century and is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a slate roof. The building features a double range plan facing northwest, with two internal stacks between the ranges and an external stack at the rear right, which is enclosed by a mid-19th century extension. There is also a late 19th century single-storey lean-to in the rear left corner.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two original sash windows with 6+6 lights and much crown glass, set in segmental arches. The first floor has three similar original sash windows. The central entrance features a flush six-panel door with a plain overlight, framed by a simple doorcase that includes plaster pilasters and a flat canopy supported by profiled brackets. Each side elevation has two similar sash windows on each floor. The rear extension has one sash window on the right elevation and one on the rear elevation. The roofs are fully hipped with a low pitch on the original house, and the shaft of the left stack is cement-rendered. The date 1841 is lightly inscribed on a brick in the rear elevation of the main building, near the current back door.
Inside, the original staircase has a straight flight with a quarter-turn at the top, featuring a moulded pine handrail and two stick balusters for each tread. The front ground-floor rooms retain original folding shutters in the splays of all four windows, and there are four-panel internal doors throughout.
