Description

White House Farmhouse is a circa 1840 farmhouse, with an extension dating to circa 1860. The front of the house is built with Flemish bond gault brick, while the rear wing is of red brick. The roof over the front is slate, with lead rolls to the hips and ridge, and deep eaves, while the rear wing has a gable-ended plain tile roof. Brick stacks are located axially and laterally. The original plan comprised a two-room front range, with a central entrance and stair hall, and a single-storey outshut behind the left room. A large wing was added to the rear right, facing the garden.

The symmetrical south front has three bays, with tall two-light casement windows featuring margin panes and flat rubbed brick arches. A central doorway has a rubbed brick round arch, a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and a six-panel door. Similar windows are found on the right-hand end. The east front of the rear wing has a lateral stack between two gables, and two-light sashes in openings with chamfered brick and labels. A similar opening, with a panelled door, is centrally located. Further windows are present on the rear (west) wall of the rear wing, overlooking the farmyard, and there is a single-storey outshut on the right side of the front range.

The interior remains largely intact and complete, retaining many 19th-century features and joinery. These include chimneypieces with iron grates, a ground floor left room flanked by china cupboards with shaped shelves, pilasters, and arches, a stick-baluster staircase with column newels and a mahogany handrail, panelled doors, and a kitchen with a range and boiler.
