Description
Nos 72A and 72 on High Street in Braintree is an originally 16th to 17th century building that has undergone many alterations and additions over the years. The front is primarily early 19th century plastered brick and stands three storeys tall. It features a three-window range with double-hung sash windows that have margin glazing bars. The first-storey windows are adorned with moulded stucco architraves, while the second-storey windows have plain reveals. No 72A includes a 20th-century shop front, and its interior boasts some fine moulded ceiling beams, which are now obscured by a lower 20th-century ceiling. No 72 has a late 19th or early 20th-century shop front with ornamental iron railing above the fascia. The roofs are slate. All the listed buildings from No 68 to No 80 on the south-east side form a group.
