Hewitts

Hewitts is a house located in Lamarsh, dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is timber framed and plastered, featuring imitation framing at the ends, and has a thatched roof. It consists of four bays facing east and includes an internal chimney stack positioned one bay from the right end. A 20th-century rear extension, which forms a T-plan, is roofed with red clay corrugated tiles and has a canopy in the left rear angle. The house is one storey high with attics, featuring three casement windows and a door located in front of a thatched gabled porch, along with three casements in gabled dormers, all of which are from the 20th century. Inside, the building showcases exposed framing, jowled posts, heavy studding with arch-braces set within the studding, axial and transverse beams that are chamfered with lamb's tongue stops, and joists of horizontal section. The roof structure consists of clasped purlins with arched wind-bracing.
