Description

Hill Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th or 17th century, with extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame, partly covered with painted brick in Flemish bond and partly roughcast, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The main part of the house faces northeast and has a 16th-century external chimney stack at the left gable end. There is a rear wing extending from the left end, which includes an end chimney stack, along with a single-storey extension from the 19th century and a flat-roofed single-storey extension from the 20th century to the left. A large extension at the rear of the right end includes a chimney stack and has a catslide roof. There is also a small lean-to extension between the rear wings. The house has two storeys and attics, featuring a two-window range of late 18th-century sashes with 16 lights, topped with flat brick arches. The central doorway, which has a flat brick arch, has been converted into a sash window from the 20th century, with the entrance door located in the right return wall. The right stack has two grouped hexagonal shafts. An early 18th-century two-light window with a wrought iron casement is situated in the upper rear wall. Access to the interior was not available at the time of the survey in April 1984.
