Description
The Railway Maltings is a maltings building dated 1851, currently being converted into housing as of April 1984. It is constructed of red brick with gault brick dressings and features slate roofs. The building has an H-plan layout, with a south crosswing facing the road that includes a square oast house at the southern end of the middle range. The crosswings are two storeys high, while the middle range is three storeys, with all roofs aligned. The crosswings are divided into three bays by pilasters with gault brick dressings, and the middle range is similarly divided into eleven bays, with matching pilasters at the corners. Once completed, the road elevation will feature a six-window range of 20th-century casements, two 20th-century doors, and a low-pitched roof with two skylights. There is a date-stone located on the upper floor. The oast house is topped with a steep pyramidal roof that has a flat top.
