Description
The Swan Public House is a building that dates from the 16th century and early 18th century, originally a house and now serving as a public house. It features a combination of partly timber-framed and plastered sections, as well as areas constructed of painted brick in Flemish bond. The roof is covered with machine-made clay tiles and the building is designed in an L-shape, facing north, with the 16th-century wing on the left side.
The structure has two internal chimney stacks, one located to the left of center and the other at the right end. There is a lean-to at the rear, along with single-storey rear extensions, and a 20th-century flat-roofed single-storey extension on the right side. The building stands two storeys tall.
On the ground floor, there is a splayed bay window with sashes arranged in a pattern of 16-20-16 lights, a tripartite sash window with 4-12-4 lights, and two single-hung sash windows with 12 lights, all of which are early 19th-century features. The entrance includes a half-glazed door. The first floor boasts four early 18th-century three-light windows, which have wrought-iron casements and rectangular leaded glazing. The roof is hipped.
Inside the left part of the building, there are moulded axial and transverse beams, along with chamfered joists that have a horizontal section and plain stops, dating back to the 16th century.
