Description
Brook House is a house dating from the 16th century. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building consists of five or six bays arranged east-west, with the gable end facing the road and the main entrance located to the north. There is an external chimney stack to the south of the western bay and an internal chimney stack located two bays from the eastern end. The house features three lean-to extensions on the north side, one of which has a catslide roof, and one lean-to extension on the south side.
The house is two storeys high. On the western gable end, there are two 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The southern garden elevation includes a pair of 19th-century French windows with marginal lights, one 20th-century sash window, two 20th-century casement windows, and one 20th-century door set in a glazed lean-to porch. On the first floor, there are three 20th-century casement windows and two 20th-century sashes.
At the western end, there is an underbuilt jetty, and the two western bays feature axial and transverse beams and joists with a horizontal section, all of which are moulded. The beams and joists in the eastern bays are heavy but plain.
