Description
LAMARSH ALPHAMSTONE ROAD TL 83 NE (south side) 2/62 Newman's Farmhouse - II House. C15, altered in C17 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 2-bay hall with early C17 axial chimney stack in W bay, storeyed parlour/solar bay to E, C17 storeyed bay to W. C20 rear extension at E end. Main range of one storey with attics, W bay of 2 storeys. 4 C20 casement windows on ground floor, 4 on first floor, of which 2 are in swept dormers. C20 door. The interior has an early C17 inserted floor in the hall, the W half having chamfered joists of horizontal section with lamb's tongue stops, the E half with plain joists of vertical section, formerly plastered to the soffits. The doorway to the parlour (E bay) has a 4-centred arched head, and is in an unusual position. The E end is of interrupted tiebeam construction with 2 blocked unglazed windows, all 6 diamond mullions in situ. In 1970 the house was almost derelict, and underwent a major renovation. RCHM 9.
