Description

Ivy Todd is a house dating from the late 16th century, with later additions in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and has plastered walls and a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The original house comprised three bays aligned approximately northeast to southwest, with two external chimney stacks joined together on the northwest wall. A large 20th-century extension was added to the northwest, incorporating many reused antique features, and a smaller, single-storey lean-to extension to the southeast was built in the 20th century. The house is two storeys high. The southeast elevation features two late 18th or early 19th century double-hung sash windows, each with 24 panes of glass, on each floor, and a 20th century casement window on the first floor. The house exhibits jowled posts, with limited exposed timber framing. A ground floor hearth in the northeast bay is constructed of moulded brick, featuring a depressed arch and plastered spandrels. The hearth in the middle room was originally similar, but the arch has collapsed and been replaced with a mantel beam; the fireplace has been converted into a cupboard.
