Description
Merlins Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame, is covered with weatherboarding, and has a roof made of thatch and corrugated iron. The building consists of two bays that are aligned approximately northwest to southeast, with an internal chimney stack located at the northwest end. It is a single-storey structure with attics and has a thatched roof. There is also a single-storey range of one bay to the northwest, which is roofed with corrugated iron. The cottage has a northeast aspect and includes two plain boarded doors, one 19th-century fixed window with 24 lights, one 19th-century horizontally sliding window with 24 lights, and one small 20th-century metal window. Additionally, there is a 19th-century horizontally sliding window with 16 lights on the southeast gable. Inside the northwest bay, there is an axial beam with exposed joists, while the remainder of the interior features an axial beam with joists that are plastered to the soffits.
