Description
This barn, located 40 metres north of Monks Downs Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, while the base wall is made of red brick in English bond. The barn has 14 bays that run from northeast to southwest, with two midstreys on the southeast side. It measures 44 metres in length. The roof is half-hipped at the northeast end and gabled at the southwest end, with both midstreys having been altered to a lean-to form. The structure features primary straight bracing and bolted knees to the straight tiebeams. The clasped purlin roof has been damaged by a falling tree at the southwest end and has been repaired. Other farm buildings and lean-to extensions are located to the southeast of each end but are not included in this listing.
