Description

This barn, dating to the late 18th century, stands to the north of Knapp Farmhouse. It is a timber-framed structure, with the east-facing wall and gables finished in brick laid in an English garden wall bond pattern. The roof is covered in pantiles. The timber framing is weatherboarded and sits upon high brick sills. The barn comprises nine bays, with midstreys (internal doorways) located in bays 3 and 6, and lean-to additions are present between some of the bays. The wall framing features wide-spaced posts and straight tension braces. The roof structure includes king post and tied beam trusses, braced to jowled wall posts, and a double tier of purlins. A brick wall, rising to half the height, divides off the ninth bay.
