Description
The mausoleum, built in the early 19th century, is located approximately 20 metres east of the United Reformed Church in Wethersfield. It features a rectangular plan and is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with a slate roof. The mausoleum is a single storey and faces west.
On the west gable, there is a blocked central door with a segmental arch, flanked by niches on either side. Each niche has a segmental arch that encloses inscribed stone panels. The left panel is dedicated to Isaac Legerton, 1832, and other members of the Legerton family, while the right panel is for Susanna Mary Ann Ledgerton, 1856, along with other family members, with variations in the spelling of the surname. Above these, in the gable, is an oval stone tablet commemorating Mariann Legerton, who died in 1829 at the age of 15, also from Shalford. Additionally, the rear wall contains a small square aperture with an iron grill.
