Description

The United Reformed Church is an early 19th-century building located on the north side of The Green in Wethersfield. The church features gault brick at the front and red brick on the other sides, all laid in Flemish bond, topped with a slate roof. It was constructed in two stages, with the northern part built first and the southern part added in 1822, facing south.

The church is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows with eight lights each, topped with flat brick arches. The first floor has four casement windows with six lights each, featuring semi-circular brick arches. There are two pairs of double doors, each with two panels and overlights, set within panelled jambs and lintels. The doorcases are shallow pedimented and made of plaster. A dentilled course runs along the eaves height.

In the gable, there is a plaster roundel that reads 'Rebuilt 1822' in high relief. The shallow-pitched roof has projecting eaves. Each side wall contains four similar windows on each floor, with a straight joint marking the division between the two stages. The rear elevation has two ground-floor windows and four first-floor windows, all of which are blocked, along with a similar dentilled course. There is also a small single-storey extension to the right of the rear part, dating from the 19th century.
