Description
The Mylne Mausoleum, built in 1800 by Robert Mylne, is located in the churchyard of Great Amwell, 8 metres east of the chancel. This mausoleum is a plain rectangular structure made of fine buff brick in Flemish bond, topped with a low-pitched roof covered by three stone slabs on each slope. Each end features a plain stone pediment with recessed tympanaum that has a decorative tooled finish.
On the west end, there is a limestone doorframe with a coved projecting lintel, although the doorway itself has been bricked up. Flanking this door are stone memorial tablets dedicated to the Mylne family, secured to the exterior with bronze pins. The roof is topped by a large square pedestal with a moulded base and cap, which supports a fluted stone urn. On the west side of the pedestal, there is a Coade-stone circular plaque depicting a mourner, while the east side displays the Mylne family achievement. The north side is plain, and the south side is inscribed with 'Deo Opt Max/Coemeterium/pro se et suis/dat don dedicat/Robertus Mylne/MDCCC'.
