Description

This is a cottage dating to the 16th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a red plain tiled roof and two red brick chimney stacks. A jetty projects from the gable of the first floor. The gable has barge boards. The cottage is two storeys high with attics, and has a three-window front with a variety of leaded casement windows, including two cross-transom windows. On the ground floor, there is a red plain tiled bay to the right and a gabled red tiled porch. The timber frame is exposed internally. Documentary evidence indicates the house existed as early as 1533, when it was known as Rammages. It was occupied until 1739 by the Canter family, who are believed to have built the red brick church tower.
