Description

Shellards is a cottage dating from the late 14th or early 15th century, originally a hall house. It is timber-framed and plastered with a thatched roof, half-hipped to the right and projecting to the left front, featuring an off-centre, flat-headed tiled dormer. A red brick chimney stack is located off-centre, and another is present on the outshot. The front has a two-window range of 20th-century casement windows, with 19th-century casements within the dormer and on the right return. A small window is present in the kitchen outshot. A four-board door is set to the right of the outshut. The interior retains much of the original timber frame, exhibiting halved and bridled top plate scarfs. A 16th-century inserted floor and chimney stack are also present, dividing the interior into four bays.
