Description
126 Newland Street is an 18th century timber-framed and plastered house, featuring a striking early 18th century blue and red brick front. The façade includes a parapet with a stone coping, a stucco band below, a plinth, and pilasters. The building has two storeys, attics, and cellars, with a five-window range of double-hung sash windows that have thick glazing bars, cased frames, and brick aprons. The central window on the first floor has a semi-circular brick arched head with a stucco keystone, while the outer windows on the first floor feature shaped soffits and the inner windows also have stucco keystones. Above the first-floor windows, there are raised brick panels. The entrance consists of a central six-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, framed by a wood doorcase that includes an architrave, pilasters, a projecting frieze, and a modillion cornice supported by cut brackets. The roof is hipped and tiled. This building is part of a group with Nos 117 to 129 (odd) and includes No 118 and Nos 124 to 128 (even).
