Description
The Crotchet is a building located at 128 Newland Street, dating from 1841, although it features a red brick front from the 18th century that covers an earlier timber-framed and plastered structure. It has two storeys and cellars, with a three-window range of double-hung sashes that include glazing bars set in plastered reveals. The ground storey showcases a late 18th century or early 19th century shop front, complete with pilasters, a cornice, and double fronted shop windows that also have glazing bars. A central doorway is accessed by stone steps. The front of the building features a parapet that is higher than that of the adjacent property at 126, along with a stucco band that continues from No 126. The roof is tiled. The Crotchet is part of a group with the buildings at 118 and 124 to 128, as well as Nos 117 to 129.
