Description
129 Newland Street is a notable building dating from 1841. It features a striking 18th-century red brick front with a parapet and a raised brick band, which is part of an earlier timber-framed and plastered structure. The building has two storeys and a four-window range, with the front slightly projecting and the windows at the south-west end being blocked. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, and the outer windows are three-light bays that extend through both storeys. The central window has a semi-circular arched head with a stucco keystone.
There is a central six-panel door that is complemented by a semi-circular fanlight with fan glazing, all set within a recessed brick reveal. The door is framed by a wooden doorcase featuring Corinthian pilasters and an ornamental frieze. Access to the entrance is via stone steps adorned with ornamental iron railings. The roof is tiled.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 117 to 129 (odd) along with No 118 and Nos 124 to 128 (even).
