Description

TL 73 NW TOPPESFIELD 3/5 Barn approx. 30 metres SE of Hoses Farmhouse GV II Barn, c.1600, altered in C20, now a garage and games room. Timber framed, weatherboarded, thatched with Norfolk reed. 4 bays aligned E-W with midstrey to N of second bay from W end, and an aisle on the S side only. 2 eyebrow dormers on S side. The W bay is floored to form a garage with doors to the S, and a room over. Arched braces to arcade plate, face-halved and bladed scarfs, modern straight braces to tiebeams, reversed assembly in aisle, clasped purlin roof with curved wind bracing. 3 posts are re-used from a barn of the C13 or C14, with oblique trenches for passing braces.
