Description
The Old Forge is a house and shop that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, with 20th-century imitation framing added to the first-floor front and left side. The roof is covered with handmade red plain tiles. The building has a rectangular plan facing south and includes two internal rear stacks. It stands two storeys tall with attics.
On the ground floor, there is one 20th-century casement window and one 20th-century sash window. The first floor has one 20th-century casement window and one early 19th-century sash window with 16 lights. There are two gabled dormers: one has a 19th or 20th-century casement window, and the other features an 18th-century two-light window with a wrought iron casement. The roof is hipped, and there are two 20th-century glazed doors on the left side leading to Queen's Road. The building originally served as a wheelwright's shop in the 17th century and has been a forge since 1747.
