Description

No. 6, known as Teys, is a house that dates back to the 17th century and was extended in the 18th and 19th centuries, with alterations made in the 20th century. It has a timber frame that is plastered and is topped with handmade red clay tiles. The house consists of three bays aligned north-south, featuring a central chimney stack that creates a lobby entrance on the east side. There is a single-storey lean-to extension at the rear from the 18th century, a small single-storey extension to the north from the 19th century, and a larger extension to the west from the 20th century. The building has two storeys and attics, with a central oriel window that has a hipped roof, added around 1980, and a two-window range of 20th-century casements. The roof is gambrel-shaped, and the gables are weatherboarded. The original entrance has been blocked to create the oriel window. Inside, the house features jowled posts, some exposed framing with primary straight bracing, and chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops on both levels. All posts and horizontal main members are similarly chamfered and stopped. There are two original hearths on the ground floor, one of which has a blocked opening for an oven. The carpentry style is echoed in the joists of the northwest extension from the 20th century.
