Description

Willowdene is a late 17th-century cottage located on the west side of Topesfield Stambourne Road, near Topesfield. It is a timber-framed building, now plastered with a thatched roof, and originally comprised three bays aligned north-south. A 19th-century chimney stack is located in the south bay, and the cottage faces west. A single-storey lean-to extension with a tiled roof was added in the 19th or 20th century to the south, and a flat-roofed extension exists to the east. The cottage is single-storey with attics. A 20th-century door is set within a thatched gabled porch at the front, and there are four 20th-century casement windows. Two 19th-century horizontally sliding sash windows with twelve panes are set within eyebrow dormers. The interior features plain-chamfered axial and transverse beams with lamb's tongue stops, exposed joists, and primary straight bracing.
