Description
No. 7 Church Street is a house dating from around 1600, with an extension added in the 18th century. It has a timber frame with a brick facade that is plastered, and the roof is covered with handmade red clay tiles. The building has four bays facing west, with an internal stack located against the rear wall. There is a one-bay extension from the 18th century at the right end, which features an external end stack. Additionally, there is a full-length lean-to extension at the rear that dates from the 18th or 19th century, and it is two storeys high.
The house has a five-window range of early 19th century sashes, each with 16 lights, along with one 20th century octagonal window on the ground floor. The entrance features a 20th century door with a flat canopy supported by brackets. The main building has jowled posts, while the right extension has unjowled posts. Inside, there are chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops, and plain joists with a vertical section. On the ground floor's rear wall, there is an original window with three widely spaced diamond mullions, which is now enclosed by the rear extension. There is also a blocked original window on the first floor at the rear, which may still have a mullion in place.
