Description

Rookwoods is a stable block built around 1887, located approximately 30 metres north-west of the main house. It is constructed of red brick featuring fine moulded brickwork and has a grey slate roof that is hipped to the west, along with a red brick chimney. The east face of the building is ornate and symmetrical, showcasing a central pediment with a Dutch gable. It is flanked by four pilasters that have moulded and enriched capitals topped with stone ball finials. The plinth also features moulded brickwork, and there are flower vase panels between the pilasters at ground floor level. Above, a band with swag decoration runs along the eaves, with fleuron panels to the left and right. The central circular window includes glazing bars and has a swag panel above it, while the moulded and dentilled pediment is enriched with an egg and dart motif and fleuron panels, topped with a weathervane finial. The south face has two semi-circular headed windows with glazing bars set in rectangular recessed moulded panels, along with two vertically boarded doors in moulded surrounds. To the west, there is a small single-storey extension with a red tiled roof hipped to the left, featuring a stable door and a two-light small paned vertically sliding sash window. This stable block is noted for its particularly good example of moulded brickwork in the Queen Anne style.
