Description

TL 7734 SIBLE HEDINGHAM YELDHAM ROAD 9/328 Rookwoods. Stable block approx. 30 metres north west of house

GV II

Stable block. c.1887. Red brick with fine moulded brickwork. Grey slate roof hipped to west. Red brick chimney. The ornate two storey east face symmetrical with central pediment to Dutch gable. Four pilasters with moulded and enriched capitals surmounted by stone ball finials. Plinth with moulded brickwork. Flower vase panels between the pilasters at ground floor level. Band with swag decoration at eaves level above which to left and right are fleuron panels. Central circular window with glazing bars, swag panel over. Moulded and dentilled pediment enriched with egg and dart motif and fleuron panels. Weathervane finial. South face two semi-circular headed windows with glazing bars in rectangular recessed moulded panels. Two vertically boarded doors in moulded surrounds. There is a small single storey extension to west with red tiled roof hipped to left, a stable door and a two light small paned vertically sliding sash window. Included as a particularly good example of moulded brickwork in Queen Anne style.
