Description
The barn located to the west of Pond Farm dates back to the mid-17th century. It is timber framed and features black weatherboarding, with a roof covered in corrugated asbestos sheeting. The structure consists of four bays aligned north-south, with an offset midstrey on the west side and outshots on the rest of the west elevation and part of the east elevation. The storey posts are jowled and supported by straight braces, while the walls are braced with central side girths. The roof has clasped side purlins and bladed scarf joints at the wall plates. The upper midstrey has internal plaster infill, and the south gable end is constructed of brick with a later frame, likely from the 18th century. The roof is hipped at the north end, and the midstrey also has a hipped roof. There is evidence of a former screen between the southernmost bay and bay three, suggesting that this barn may be a truncated remnant of a six-bay barn with two midstreys. This barn is part of a group that includes Pond Farmhouse and a former byre, now a barn, to the south of Pond Farm.
