Description
A barn, dating to the early 18th century, is located to the south of Pond Farm. Originally a byre, it is now used as a barn. The barn has a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a roof covered in corrugated asbestos. It is arranged with six bays running east to west, featuring lean-to outshots at the west end and on the north elevation to the east of an off-centre midstrey. Reused timber is evident in the frame, including mortices for large braces in the beams. The roof is a clasped side purlin design. Some plaster infill is present between studs on the west end walls. The midstrey, which still has threshold doors, lateral bracing and a large eaves overhang, contains an older frame, possibly reused from a nearby barn when it was reduced in size. The main roof is hipped with gablets, and the midstrey roof is also hipped. The barn is particularly significant when viewed from the roadside and forms a group with Pond Farmhouse and a large barn located to the west of Pond Farm.
