Description
The White Hart is a house that dates from the 14th century, with additions from the mid-16th century and early 20th century. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure, topped with handmade red plain tiles. The building includes a late 14th-century gabled crosswing on the southwest side and a 20th-century extension on the northeast side, which has one axial stack and another stack located behind the ridge.
The house is two storeys high and has a four-to-one window range, featuring 20th-century sashes with glazing bars on the first floor. There are three 19th-century flat-roofed splayed bays with sashes. The entrance has a four-panel door set within an early 19th-century pedimented doorcase that includes a moulded architrave, frieze, and brackets. A 20th-century carriageway is located at the northeast end.
Inside, much of the original framing remains, including a late 14th-century crownpost roof and high-quality stop-chamfered framing from the mid-16th century. The house also contains 17th and 18th-century doors, a late 16th-century staircase balustrade with flat fretted balusters and square newels topped with lozenge finials, and an 18th-century corner cupboard with shaped shelves and a flat arch.
