Description
Two interlocking walled gardens, dating from the late 18th century, are constructed in red brick with some grey headers. The main garden walls are approximately 3 meters high and feature square piers with stone copings, while the outer face has a battered coping. The smaller garden to the southwest has walls of varying character and is generally lower in height. There are arched gateways with wrought iron gates located at the center of the east face of the main garden and in the northwest corner. A beebole is situated at the south end of the west wall. In the northwest corner of the main garden, there is a stone plaque that reads: "SIR JOHN MARRIOTT LAID THIS FOUNDATION STONE OF THE NEW CHURCH OF TWINSTEAD 29TH DAY OF JUNE 1791 JOHN BRADFORD CARPENTER ISAAC SLYTHE BRICKLAYER AND MASON," indicating it has been reused. Twinstead Hall, which is nearby, is not listed.
