Description

The building is a barn and stable range located approximately 15 metres north of Leylands Farmhouse. The barn dates from the 17th century and the stable range from the 18th century. It features a timber frame with weatherboarding, a thatched roof on the barn, and an old grey slate roof on the stable range. The barn consists of four bays aligned roughly northwest to southeast, with a midstrey on the southwest side. The stable range extends southwest from the northwest end of the barn, and there is a lean-to extension on the opposite side of the midstrey, which is roofed with red clay 'Roman' tiles. The roofs of both the barn and the midstrey are fully hipped.

Inside, the barn has jowled posts and arched braces to the tiebeams, which have been replaced by bolted knees, and a clasped purlin roof. The walls are fully lined with insulation material and softwood boards, allowing it to be used as a heated store. The stable range features three halved doors and double garage doors facing southeast, with a low-pitched roof made of heavy hand-cut slate, although the northwest pitch has minor repairs using thin machine-cut slate. It also includes cambered tiebeams with bolted knees and a clasped purlin roof, along with wooden troughs and wooden hayracks in three loose boxes.
