Description
Kirby Hall is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, featuring later alterations and additions. It is constructed with a timber frame and rough render, while the ground floor is faced with brick. The roof is covered with red plain tiles and includes two large red brick chimney stacks with attached octagonal shafts on the right side. The building has three gables and a wing at the rear right. It stands two storeys tall with attics and has a three-window range of four-light vertically sliding sashes, except for the left gable which lacks an attic window. There is a moulded band at the first floor level. Off-centre to the left is a panelled door set within a moulded brick surround, topped with a flat canopy supported by brackets. A rainwater head dated 1765 is also present. The historian Peter Muilman owned and lived in this house, which is reputed to contain 17th-century panelling and stop-chamfered and moulded ceiling beams.
