Description

This barn, located approximately 10 metres southwest of Smiths Green Farmhouse, dates from the early 17th century. It is timber framed and has a roof covered with corrugated iron. The structure consists of three bays aligned east to west, with a midstrey on the south side. Notable features include jowled posts, curved braces set inside heavy studding, and face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates. The arched braces supporting the tiebeams have been replaced with bolted knees, and the roof has been rebuilt above the tiebeam level to accommodate the corrugated iron.
