Description

Milestone located at the junction of London Road and Nevendon Road, dating from the late 18th century. It has a square stone plan, with the road-facing side inscribed with the distances: "To London 29 miles, Southend 12 miles, Rayleigh 5 miles, Billericay 6 miles." This milestone is part of a series documented on the Chapman and André map of 1777, which outlined the route from Romford, through Brentwood, Shenfield, Hutton, Billericay, Wickford, to Rayleigh and onward to Southend.
