Description

Nevendon Manor, formerly known as Little Bromfords Manor, is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house situated on an L-shaped plan. Records indicate a house likely existed on the site as early as 1419, with property sale records extending to 1770. The building has two storeys. The roof is tiled, featuring an original chimney stack with grouped diagonal shafts. A small, two-storey gabled wing projects from the east side, likely originally serving as an entrance porch. This wing features jettied upper storeys supported by shaped brackets and a moulded bressumer to the north and south, and has moulded bargeboards to its gable. The interiors retain several original features, including four boarded and panelled doors with original hinges, a number of blocked original windows, and an iron fireback dated 1641 with the initials “E.M.” The house underwent restoration and modernisation in the 20th century. Remnants of a moat are visible in the grounds.
