Description
Highway Cottage is a late 17th or early 18th century cottage located on the east side of Heydon Chishill Road. It is timber-framed with roughcast render and has a thatched roof, half-hipped to the right. A rectangular planned red brick ridge stack rises from the roof. The cottage is rectangular with a four-unit plan, and has one storey and an attic. A 20th-century closed porch now fronts the entrance on the right-hand side. There are three ground floor windows with glazing bars, along with one horizontal sliding sash window. Two eyebrow casement dormer windows light the attic space. Inside, the exposed floor frames feature light scantling and chamfered beams. A hearth is present with a mantel beam and two niches, each with shaped heads.
