Description

No. 69 Chishill Road is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the early 18th century. It features a timber-framed structure with plaster and a plain tiled half-hipped roof. The building has two rectangular red brick ridge stacks and is two storeys high with attics. A 20th-century rear outshut has replaced a former stair turret. The layout consists of four units, with the main entrance located on the right side. This entrance has a wooden shouldered architrave and console brackets that support a pediment with dentil detailing, leading to a six-panel door that is raised and fielded.

On the ground floor, there are four 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, and the first floor has four similar windows along with one single light window. The house also features three hipped dormer windows. Inside, the building showcases exposed floor frames and timber framing. The central partition between the inner rooms has been removed at the ground floor, and there is a modern staircase leading from the outshut. An attic stair is located beside the main hearth. The interior includes three hearths, a baking oven, and niches in the main hearth, along with an Adam-style chimney piece in the south room. In the 19th century, the building was divided into two cottages.
