Description
The Downs is a villa built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of gault brick and features a low pitched hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys and a lower rear service wing. Notable architectural elements include deep boarded eaves and a plinth. The facade is asymmetric, with stone steps leading to a Tuscan portico that supports a wide six-panelled door flanked by narrow sidelights and a rectangular fanlight. On the ground floor, there are two large recessed twelve-paned hung sash windows, each with flat plastered arches and incised key blocks. The first floor has three smaller windows of a similar style. Additionally, there is a verandah on the west elevation, which has a pent roof and a pierced wooden frieze supported by cast iron columns.
